this is theft after all, I would be playing the game, not wasting more of my time on the forums trying to get the key out of the registry.Įven if I was, as I and others have stated, the key should be on the manual of the game.

Therefore, he'll distribute the keylogger software to his "friend", retrieve the CD key and simply go from there.Įven if I'm not exactly right, you don't think it's a tad bit suspicious that he would buy another copy of the game and not install it because he wants to know where the first key is? While I was settling matters with my friend via the proper authorities, becaue I mean. The OP is likely running a pirated version of the game and can't get online to play but wants to.

My theory is that the "friend" has GTAIV installed on his/her PC legitimately. I'm certain there are "off the shelf" keylogger programs available that merely prompt for the location of the information you want and nothing else. Again, something seems funny here.Īre you aware of the term "script kid?" The CD-key would be in the same place in everyones registry. Furthermore, we now know that patience is certainly not the OP's strong suit with his "omg stop commenting where teh f* is the f* CD-key located plz kthxbai" response. The OP has already wasted more time posting on the forums regarding where to find the CD-key that he could've utilized to install the game many, many times.

That way, all the various "points" of interaction (Social Club, GFWL, etc.) would be straight and he wouldn't have to worry about problems creeping up later.Īs Charlie pointed out, time can't be an issue here. In that case, to run the game clean he should install his new copy as opposed to trying to swap the keys. I fail to see how this could be construed as suspicious. the only way it would be there, is if it was already used on the computer, meaning if it was an illegal copy, finding the cd-key in registry wouldn't help anyways. Meaning if what he said is true and his friend stole his cd-key and is using it, then he wouldn't be able to get online and play.Īnd GTA IV takes FOREVER to install, so i wouldn't doubt he doesn't want to go through reinstalling just to enter his new cd-key.įurthermore, he's looking for his cd-key in the registry. Soemthing tells me the same cd-key can't be used to log on, online at the same time twice. What would you need to make a "CD-key changer" for? Isn't one key good enough for all your GTAIV needs? I don't see any benefit in changing CD-keys. Why would you need "your" CD-key out of the registry? You should already have this info available via the instruction book as indicated. the whole thing sounds more than a bit sketchy. I can't begin to imagine why you'd need the CD key anyway.
